The Bubble Issue. Spring 2016

For the first issue of 2016 we were all about bubbles—from those who have been incubating the crucial clues to technological and scientific advances to others who are threatening to “pop” and disrupt national politics and geo-economics.

Peter Lang explores spherical constructs in inflatable architecture, legendary fashion journalist Colin McDowell provides a historical account on fashion’s impermanence, we investigate digital filter bubbles in the context of photographic works by the artist Josephine Pryde and we capture the Dior SS16 collection and archive at the landmark Palais Bulles. Photographer Joanna Piotrowska shoots twin models Camilla and Giulia Venturini for Alessandra Facchinetti's Tod's. Tank meets the designers putting craft at the cutting edge Faustine Steinmetz, Martina Spetlova, Phoebe English and Joe Richards. Other fashion editorials are shot by Eloise Parry, Estelle Hanania, Osma Harvilahti and Lena C. Emery.

Economist Mariana Mazzucato warns of financial bubbles and speculative finance, Kai Friese reads Sloterdijk in New Delhi, Martha Henriques explains how bubbles are the key to understanding how life on this planet evolved and Nesrine Malik discusses the Westminster bubble and its reality-distorting provincialism. Tank also talks to Hal Foster, Sara Hossain, Lynne Tillman, Erik Davis, Douglas Murphy, Matt Gibberd & Albert Hill of Modern House, Sylvie Tissot, Peter Cook, Joanna Walsh, John Foot and Frédéric Panaïotis of Ruinart.
