The Realism Issue. Autumn 2015

This issue examines the knotty question of what is reality. But instead of sticking to what we know, the issue ventures towards a vast territory of unknowables: nightmares, hallucinations, lies, delusions, fanaticism – realities that have been marred beyond recognition.

Colin McCabe examines the fractious definitions of the word “reality”. The director of the Design Museum in London, Deyan Sujic, delves into the archive of world-leading architecture firm, Herzog & de Meuron. Two essays from Emily Sargent and Benjamin Bratton probe the boundaries between the body and technology. Also featured is an interview with the cult writer of weird fiction, Thomas Ligotti, and photography from Hellen van Meene.
